Dear friends,
As we approach one full year of Real Deep Radio, we’ve got our eyes on the future. And in this case, our future involves saying a gentle goodbye to the station while we’re still having fun.
So, we’ll be here for a few more weeks—and we’ll have longer, more thoughtful reflections to share with you before we go, but we thought it was only right to give you a bit of warning. If you’ve been meaning to host a show yourself, now’s your chance!* And beyond that, we’re grateful for your listenership and we hope to see your names in the chat again before we go. Take it easy out there and stay safe.
Yours,
Kevin (and Hugh and Adam)
*If you’re interested in hosting a show before we go, contact us at realdeepradio@gmail.com.
SCHEDULE
all times EST, tune in at https://mixlr.com/real_deep_radio/
Monday, 4/26
12-2PM – Meeting of the Divine Enchanteurs with The Moon Goddess & special guest _________
Two celestial and exceptional beings taking refuge in the moss covered mountains. When they make contact with one another, they will share about what’s blossoming -inside and outside their creative work hubs and eventually they will play music- a mix and songs they have written together, never having met in this multiverse face to face.. It will be wild, weird and wonderful.
Wednesday, 4/28
8-10PM – Mondo Alienation with Hugh Wilikofsky
At the heart of Mondo Alienation has been the belief that listening beyond our comfort zones with a sense of openness expands them. But as things wind down here at Real Deep Radio, the desire to challenge isn’t so strong. This week on the sporadic anything-goes-fest, we’ll be emphasizing the comfort, playing some personal standards alongside new discoveries by old favorites.
Thursday, 4/29
8-9PM – Nearer/Clearer with Kevin McKinney
Each installment of Nearer/Clearer will be different, but its spirit lives in the idea that we listen better when we listen together. Nearer/Clearer is devoted to approachability without predictability. This week, let's jump around and thrash about to some punk rock. I'm sure we'll hear songs from all over, but I'd like to pay special attention to the fast and reckless sounds coming out of the Midwest.
Friday, 4/30
9-11PM – IS IT LIVE OR IS IT MEMOREX: An Adult Contemporary Retrospective with DJ PARTY PETE & DJ SUM HAIR
Cities 97. Alice FM. Starbucks iTunes Downloads and burnt CDs. Car rides and bus rides to church and school have been punctuated by the influence of adult contemporary music, whether we care to admit it or not. Join DJ PARTY PETE and DJ SUM HAIR as we explore the powerful influence this truly American variety of music held over our childhoods in suburban Minnesota and rural Illinois.
Saturday, 5/1
8-10AM – Hypnopompia Morning Show with Michael Cormier
Music to soundtrack the fragile moments right before reaching for your phone and realizing the world has gone on without you while you slept.
RECOMMENDED
ADAM: I’ve been sorting through a ton of music this week, but the thing that feels prescient right now is this incredibly special duet between Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash off Nashville Skyline. If you’ve heard it before, give it another listen. It’s always a comfort. If you haven’t, well I’m jealous that you’re experiencing it for the first time.
